When it comes to family holidays, few destinations can rival the beauty, adventure and luxury offered by Mauritius. This tropical island in the Indian Ocean is a true paradise, with its pristine beaches, crystal-clear waters, and a wide range of activities that cater to all ages.

Whether you're looking to relax on the beach, explore the island's natural wonders, or enjoy some quality time together, Mauritius has something for everyone.

In this article, we'll explore why Mauritius is the perfect family holiday destination and provide recommendations on the best luxury hotels to make your stay unforgettable.

Fun for All the Family

Mauritius is a playground for families, offering a wide range of activities that cater to all ages and interests. Whether you’re traveling with young children, teenagers, or a mix of both, there’s plenty to keep everyone entertained.

Beach Days and Water Sports

Mauritius is famous for its stunning beaches, and spending a day by the sea is a must for any family visiting the island. Beaches like Flic en Flac and Belle Mare offer soft sands, shallow waters, and plenty of shade, making them perfect for families with young children. For the more adventurous, there are opportunities to try water sports like snorkelling, kayaking, paddle-boarding, and even glass-bottom boat tours —all of which are safe and enjoyable for children.

Explore the Wildlife at Casela World of Adventures

One of the most popular attractions in Mauritius for families is Casela World of Adventures . This expansive park offers a variety of activities, including safaris, zip-lining, and animal encounters. Children will love getting up close with lions, giraffes, and zebras, while the more adventurous can take a thrilling quad bike ride through the park. There’s also a dedicated kids’ area with a petting zoo and playgrounds. Mauritius is a wildlife lovers' paradise. The government and the people of the island do their upmost to protect the beautiful landscape and the nature that inhabits it.

Discover the Seven Coloured Earths

A visit to the Seven Coloured Earths in Chamarel is both educational and awe-inspiring. This unique geological formation, with its vibrant hues of red, brown, violet, and blue, is a natural wonder that captivates visitors of all ages. The nearby Chamarel Waterfall is another must-see, offering a great spot for a family photo.

Take a Catamaran Cruise to Île aux Cerfs

For a day of relaxation and fun on the water, take a catamaran cruise to Île aux Cerfs , a small island off the east coast of Mauritius. The boat ride itself is a highlight, offering stunning views of the Mauritian coastline. Once on the island, families can enjoy swimming, snorkeling, or simply relaxing on the beach. Many cruises also include a BBQ lunch, adding to the day’s enjoyment.

Visit the La Vanille Nature Park

La Vanille Nature Park is home to giant tortoises, crocodiles, and a variety of other animals, making it an exciting outing for families. The park offers educational tours that teach children about the importance of conservation and the unique wildlife of Mauritius. Don’t miss the chance to feed the giant tortoises—a memory your kids will cherish.

Tips for Traveling to Mauritius with Children

Traveling to Mauritius with young children can be a smooth and enjoyable experience with some planning. Here are a few tips to help you make the most of your family holiday:

Plan for long flights

Since Mauritius is a long-haul destination for many travellers, it’s important to plan for the journey. Bring plenty of snacks, entertainment, and comfort items like blankets or favourite toys to keep your children occupied during the flight. As there is very little time difference between UK and Mauritius, we recommend catching an overnight flight so your little ones can sleep through!

Protect agains the sun

The Mauritian sun can be intense, especially for young children. Be sure to pack high-SPF sunscreen, wide-brimmed hats, and UV-protective clothing. Remember to reapply sunscreen regularly, especially after swimming.

Stay hydrated

The tropical climate in Mauritius can be dehydrating, so make sure everyone drinks plenty of water throughout the day. Carry a water bottle with you during excursions and keep it filled.

Embrace the local culture

Mauritius is a melting pot of cultures, and there’s no better way to enrich your family holiday than by exploring the local traditions, cuisine, and festivals. Encourage your children to try new foods, learn a few phrases in the local languages, and participate in cultural activities.

The Perfect Family Getaway Awaits

We do recommend travelling to Mauritius from April to June and September to December to avoid peak summer and winters. We made teh mistake at going at the end of September and experienced a heft amount of rainfall.

Mauritius is a destination that truly has it all for families. From its stunning beaches and vibrant wildlife to its luxurious hotels and endless activities, it’s the perfect place for creating lasting memories.

Whether you’re seeking adventure, relaxation, or a mix of both, Mauritius offers something for everyone, ensuring that your family holiday is one that you’ll cherish for years to come. So pack your bags, gather your loved ones, and get ready to experience the magic of Mauritius!
